I am a trial lawyer for injury victims at the law firm of Miller & Zois. At one time, I represented pharmaceutical companies and insurance carriers. Now I represent only injury victims suing these same companies.
Why? Because towards the end of my career as a defense attorney, I did not enjoy my success. I found myself secretly rooting for the very people who were suing my clients. Now, my interests are aligned with where my heart is: fighting for the victims who never get a fair shake when they bring a claim without having an advocate who knows how to fight back.
Humbly, my law firm and I have had a lot of success. We have had many million-dollar and multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts. This certainly does not guarantee success in any individual case. But I’m proud of our record of getting results for people who genuinely deserved it. As I write this, I just got out of a trial yesterday where we got an amazing result for amazing clients. This job is not always easy. But that feeling is why I come to work excited every day.
Both my law firm and I have been regularly listed in SuperLawyers and Best Lawyers in America. I am a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum which is limited to advocates who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. I was also picked as one of the forty elite attorneys in Maryland by SmartCEO. I have a perfect ranking on Avvo, a service that rates attorneys.
I appreciate these honors. But you can only take this stuff so seriously. What I’m more proud of are the results we have been able to achieve for our clients.
I like my job and I like the law. I have been a law professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law for 21 years where I teach insurance law. I have lectured other lawyers in Maryland, as well as nationally, on how to maximize the value of personal injury cases. I have written a two-volume treatise, put out by James Publishing, on maximizing the value of personal injury cases. I have also done some work as an expert witness, providing expert opinions on the standard of care lawyers must follow and the true value of catastrophic injury and death cases. I have also written, along with one of the most respected judges in Maryland, articles for the Maryland Daily Record and an article in Trial Magazine on how to achieve success in tort mediations.
I give legal advice for a living. But I cannot give legal advice over the Internet. Please don’t take anything I say – or anything anyone says online – as legal advice that you can rely upon.
What about me? I’m a husband and father which takes up 99% of my time when I’m not here at Miller & Zois or doing something work-related. I have the world’s best wife (seriously) and four children that I adore. We live in Western Howard County. We got to church at St. John in Columbia. Our lives outside the office mostly involve chauffeuring our children from one activity or another. No complaints! We signed up for this life!
